Bharatanayam exponent Savitha Sastry is performing her second production, ‘Soul Cages’, August 18 at The Music Academy, Chennai.
She would narrate a modern story in the ancient art form of Bharatanatyam. Her first production was ‘Music Within’ in 2005.
The ‘Soul Cages’ is an artistic experience that captures the cycles of life and death as a journey, rather than an end by itself. It is the story of a small girl who reaches heaven and meets the God of Death. This unique presentation is structured on the imagery and narrative of a story, told through the fluid grace of the Bharatanatyam.
A musical, dance performance, narrative? ‘Soul Cages’ is more than the sum of its parts.
The focus of the story is death which is considered inauspicious in art forms but Savitha did not shy away as she considers both life and death equally important.
