The planet Saturn – which is Sani in Indian astrology – transits from Kanni rasi (Virgo) to Thulam rasi (Libra) on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 and is going to remain there for the next two-and-a-half years. This shift is going to bring in mixed fortunes. Sani is an indicator of longevity, misery, sorrow, old age and death, discipline, restriction, responsibility, delays, ambition, leadership and authority, humility, integrity and wisdom born of experience.

Special arrangements have been made at Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam, Walajapet, on the occasion of Sani Peyarchi on December 21.
A note from the peedam said, there would be Navagraha homam, the 6th year Sani Peyarchi maha yaagam, kalachakram pooja, vruksha (tree) pooja to vanni tree (botanical name – Prosopis spicigera linn) since this is the vruksham for Sani Bhagawan.

Benefits of vanni tree
The tree is referred to as the ‘golden tree of the Indian deserts’. All parts of the tree are useful in one way or the other. The wood is used in the construction of houses, and also for making agricultural implements. The tree is also valued for its fodder. The bark is used in treating muscular and joint pain, leprosy, piles and worm infestations. It also provides instant relief to a person bitten by a snake or scorpion. The leaves and fruits are used in preparing medicines for curing nervous disorders.
Those having Sani dasa, Sani buddhi, Sani andaram can mitigate the malefic effects by lighting sesame oil deepam (lamp) according to their age (18 years old - 18 lamps) which will bring in light for the future.
Normally, astrologers give solutions for all doshas. For removing doshas of the astrologers, mass prayers (Danvantri homam, abishekam, etc.) are performed for the welfare of world astrologers and their families for the first time in the world in the presence of Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, the founder of the peedam, and world-renowned astrologer and editor of ‘Bala Jothidam’, Adhirshtam C. Subramaniam.
Rice mixed with gingelly powder is the nivedhyam for lord Saneeswarar and will be offered as prasadam.
It is advised that devotees belonging to Mesham, Mithunam, Kadagam, Kanni, Thulam, Vrischigam, Magaram, Kumbam and Meenam perform poojas to appease lord Saneeswarar.
