‘Grassroots’ school is truly Indian

‘Grassroots’ is a pre-primary school built on the world’s best early-learning methods with its grassroots in Indian culture. It is an inclusive school that welcomes all children.

This is the first school in India to use:

  • The Vivriti Curriculum for early childhood education (created by Dr Sharanya Anil Bajaj, USA)
  • The Reggio Emilia approach with multiple intelligence theories of learning and child development
  • A curriculum that follows the development of the child and not the other way around

Grassroots is the outcome of four enterprising women who came together from various walks of life.

This first-of-a-kind inclusive school, with an international curriculum, was founded because they saw the need for change in the current educational system in Chennai.

The founders:

Deepa P. Bajaj - Program Coordinator

Praseema Bipin Kumar - Outreach Services

Dr Sharanya Anil Bajaj - Academic Coordinator

Sukanya Ravindhar - Business Services

Grassroots has adapted its curriculum to better suit the cultural and educational expectations of Indian pre-schools and early learning departments of private schools.

The aim is to construct a teaching and learning environment in which children and teachers are given opportunities to make decisions, pursue authentic questions and concerns, connect what is known to the unknown and be successful as they explore, test ideas and discover through play, informal learning activities and projects.
