Book Review Week at MOP college

To inculcate the reading habit among students and make them read books and use them, a book review week was inaugurated in the library of M.O.P Vaishnav College for Women, Nungambakkam, on January 31, 2011.

To begin with, books by and on Peter Drucker, the management guru, will be identified and kept on display for a week for the students to do reviews.

Who better to inaugurate a book review week than M K Jagadish, retired director of the American Library, United States Consulate, Chennai? He emphasised the need to do extra reading beyond textbooks. Having headed the American library for more than two decades, he explained how best students can make use of the resources in the library. Peter Drucker is relevant not only in the management sector but also in other subject areas as well, he pointed out. Access to information was a challenge till some years ago, whereas today, it is the age of information explosion what with the Internet. But one has to be careful about the authenticity and currency of information available on the Net.

Jagadish enlivened the proceedings with an interactive session with the students. He also gave inputs on how to do a good ‘book review’.

More such book review weeks are scheduled on other authors and subjects as part of library activity of the college.

College principal, Dr K Nirmala Prasad was present on the occasion. Vice-principal and head of the department of management, Dr Lalitha Balakrishnan, welcomed the gathering.
