It was a long overdue visit. We are students of English literature from SDNB Vaishnav College, Chromepet, but we had not visited what is renowned as the biggest library in Asia, the Anna Centenary Library at Kotturpuram.
Thanks to our lecturers, we made that visit recently and were awestruck by the imposing structure, a building that no passer-by could miss. Amidst the din created by the vehicular traffic, the modern library stands mighty on a sprawling campus.
We moved about freely to check out our favourite sections on different floors. In spite of just looking up sections that we were interested in, we found that one day is not enough to ‘scan’ the library’s rich collection of books spanning all subjects.
This world of books has state-of-the-art facility. The ambience is soothing and gives you an appetite to read and explore this world. The tranquil atmosphere enhanced the mood and we sat at one corner, unmindful of the surroundings, to embark on a journey of discovery. We spent time reading books and catching up on news with newspapers, periodicals and journals.
New and rare books are neatly arranged on the shelves and every space has been carefully assigned for its respective purpose, with much planning.
Comfortable reading tables are provided near the shelves which egg on students to read at least a few pages of a book.
Facilities like coffee shop, rest rooms, auditorium and exhibition halls are other attractions.
We went in drawn by the architecturally striking façade and found even the contents inside just as marvellous – it is truly a treasure house of knowledge.
