The much-awaited vahanam during the Hayagreevar temple Brahmotsavam is Garuda Vahanam. It is on the 3rd day of the festival and Mahavishnu’s mode of transport exhibits his love and affection for God by carrying him on his back. Garuda blessed with a sharp nose, called Garudan mooku, has spiky eyes. He kneels down with hands lifted up to hold the Almighty. The Lord looked pleased and complacent riding on his back.
Garlands of tulasi and jasmine were curled around his neck. He wore exquisite jewellery with beads and gems kissing his neck. Many devotees gathered at dawn to worship him in the temple and many late-risers propitiated him on the roads when he went around the town.
The Almighty’s mode of transport seems to rule the day.
After Garuda vahanam in the morning, Hanumantha vahanam carried the Lord at night.
Lord Anjaneya, in dark green colour, appeared blissful carrying the Lord on his back.
Hayagreevar was dressed like Rama with bow and arrow and was attired in Ramar blue silk dhoti (one shade of blue is named after him). He was comfortably seated on Anjaneyar’s back.
The people who were carrying the Lord on the vahanam were dancing like Hanuman true to his character.
Thavil and nagaswara vidwans accompanied the Lord and his men who went on a tour of the town.
