Ritukumar, at Ispahani Centre in Nungambakkam, Chennai, showcased its bridal collection recently, comprising a variety of earthy colours combined with metallic effect, ranging from warm hues of terracotta, burgundy and red to shades of fuchsia, purple and the auspicious gulabras to calming jade and turquoise.
The bridal collection was exhibited by three of Chennai’s very own models - Aarti Venkatesh, Paloma Rao and Sherley.
Ritukumar’s bridal collection this year depicts the finest in Indian tradition of embroidery where different kinds of Indian embroidery techniques have been used.
The traditional metallic effects created with a mixture of antique zardosi, aari, gota and patti work, often teaming with gold and silver, is used, which is symbolic of the aesthetics and culture of the Indian subcontinent.
The bridal line retains its traditional inspiration encompassing a variety in fabrics, colours and textures. The mood varies from heavily worked, richly covered, silk lehangas to gossamer thin net versions in odhinis, designed in a way which gives this collection its rich glamour and subdued elegance.
