Lepakshi is a town in Andhra Pradesh famous for its handicrafts, especially wooden items. It started its venture as a puppet show and gradually customised its exhibits. Today, it has a wide large of products on display. This is the first time they held a handicrafts and handloom exhibition in Chennai.

Among jewels, we find minakari, brass and enamel-coated jewels apart from pearls.

Wooden toys, Etikoppaka toys and leather goods draw one’s attention. There is an item for every age group to choose and pick from.

The paintings are all made of clay with oil and vegetables dyes. Among the hand paintings on exhibit are Odisha pattachitra and Odisha palm leaf painting.

Nirmal teakwood, painted handicrafts from Adilabad are also in demand and the products include swings, sofas, moving chairs and double cots. The natural colours used by Nirmal artisans in the paintings make them look natural. Countryside women vendor carvings are also popular.

Many visitors from foreign countries also go for these wooden products.

The exhibition-cum-sale of these products at Lepakshi is aimed at creating and enhancing employment opportunities for the artisans coming from different parts of Andhra Pradesh.
