Simbu dominates ‘Osthe’

‘Osthe’ would go down in film history as a different film in STR’s (Silambarasan’s) career. Though he has done the usual stuff he does in his films – romance, comedy and some hot action – this one, remake of a Hindi  film, is a different presentation for STR.

The story revolves around Osthe Velan (Simbu) a police officer who is dauntless but humorous and romantic. He loses is father when he is five. After many confrontations with his stepfather and brother, he becomes a cop.

In spite of his brash ways, like Robinhood, he robs the rich and helps the poor. He has a love-hate relationship with his stepbrother Bala (Jithan Ramesh). Osthe speaks from his heart and does what his mind tells him to.

Like in all films, he meets his lady love Neduvali (Richa Gangopadhyay) at her own residence during a fight with his enemy. His marriage becomes a turning point in his life.

Villains Boxer Daniel (Sonu Sood) comes in his way. But in the end, Osthe Velan fights Boxer Daniel and establishes his superiority.

Young music director Thaman has composed the music. The melodious track ‘Neduvali’ is a big hit with the youth. Comedian Santhanam’s punch is interesting when he speaks of ‘Osthe the Mass’ bringing to mind Superstar Rajinikant’s movie ‘Sivaji the Boss’. After all, Simbu called himself ‘Little Superstar’ and has not graduated to ‘Young Superstar’.

The rest of the cast, Revathi, Nasser, Vaiyapuri, Mayilsami, Thambi Ramaiya and V T V Ganesh have played their roles well. Successful director Dharani has once again shown why he is popular making racy, action-packed movies.
