Veteran director K Balachander will be felicitated by the Tamil community based in Dubai on November 24 for his long and illustrious career in films. Balachander, who debuted as scriptwriter initially, went on to become one of the most gifted and creative directors the Tamil film industry has ever seen.
He was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for lifetime achievement by the Indian government recently. The Dubai felicitation function is being organised by the UAE Tamil Sangam in association with Tata Housing.
Titled ‘Kalai Arangam 2011’, the function would take place at 7 p.m. on November 24 on the premises of the Dubai Women’s College.
Popular director of TV serials Thirumurugan is a special guest. A concert by noted veena player Rajesh Vaidhya would be the highlight of the evening.
Awards would be given away on the occasion which would also feature programmes by Gokulnath, Aneez Rahman besides many cultural events on behalf of the UAE Tamil Sangam.
Popular television anchor Divyadarshini would host the event which would also witness screening of the trailer of the 3-D film Ambuli.
