Violinist, Dr M Lalitha, will be performing for Sri Krishna Fine Arts on September 24, 2011, (Saturday) at 6.30 p.m. at Sri Varasidhi Vinayakar Pravachana Mandapam, Nanganallur, for their 13th Sri Jayanti anniversary celebrations. She will be accompanied by Neyveli Ramkumar on the mridangam and Harihara Subramaniam on the ghatam.
Hailing from an illustrious family of musicians, Dr Lalitha (along with her sister M. Nandini) has the privilege of being the fourth generation of musicians in her family, learnt under the watchful eyes of her grandfather and guru V. Lakshminarayana Iyer and her mother and guru Subbulakshmi Muthuwamy. To quote the renowned music critic Subbudu, “Music runs in their blood, they must have played music even when they were in their mother’s womb.”
Dr Lalitha is the torchbearer of a unique musical tradition, but, yet, evolved a distinct style of her own.
With a career extending over four decades, Dr Lalitha is regarded as highly imaginative virtuoso violinist with immaculate bowing along with dexterous fingering technique. Her rare musical insight combined with her innate artistry, technical brilliance and original creativity, has enraptured critics and connoisseurs alike. The music that cascades from her violin is known to be sublime, brilliant, traditional and celestial.
At present, she is the director of the (Muthuswamy-Subbulakshmi) MS Academy of Global Music.
