Thyagaraja fest at Tirupati

The 69th annual festival of music and dance, organised by the Sri Thyagaraja Festival Committee in association with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), would be held from July 25 to August 3.

The traditional ‘Sapthagiri Sangeetha Vidwanmani’ title of the committee is being conferred on three artistes at the festival: Prapancham Seetharam (flute), Komanduri Seshadri (violin) and Madras A. Kannan (mridangam). They will also render a concert on the occasion.

Several eminent musicians and singers will perform in the 10-day event to be held at the Thyagaraja Mandapam in Tirupati. Concerts will be held in the morning, evening and night.

Sri Thyagaraja Festival Committee executive chairman K V Ranganathan said a violin concert by T N Krishnan, Viji Krishnan and Natarajan would open the festival which will be inaugurated by TTD executive officer L V Subramanyam.

Sapthagiri Sangeetha Vidwanmani S R Janakiraman will be felicitated at the inaugural.

The highlight of the festival is expected to be a whistle (Carnatic) recital by T S Nivedita. H S Brahmanandam’s Harikatha ‘Anjaneya Utsavam’ will form the finale.

Apollo Hospitals managing director Preetha Reddy will be presenting the Sapthagiri Sangeetha Vidwanmani titles.
