Summer needs special health care which pertains not only to the body but also the head. This special summer ‘thailam’ (oil concoction) can be made at home and stored for a year. Washing your hair with this ‘thailam’ has a wonderful effect on your whole body.
Ingredients
Gooseberry - 200 gm Vendhayam - 100 gm Adhimadhuram - 50 gm Hibiscus flower – 2 Hibiscus leaves – 6 Karisilankanni keerai - A small bunch Tender coconut – 1 Coconut oil - 250 gm
Method
Wash gooseberry, adhimadhuram, hibiscus flowers, leaves, karisilankanni keerai and grind it in a mixer without adding water. In a pan, add coconut oil, vendhayam, and the grounded items. Allow the mixture to boil for about 15 minutes. Add tender coconut and allow it to mix well for 5 minutes.
Summer thailam is ready. You can wash your hair with it. Apply one spoon of the oil on your head and massage your scalp with it. Let it stand for 15 minutes and wash off with shikakai powder or shampoo.
The thailam brings down body heat - gana soodu - and prevents hair fall.
During summer you can apply the thailam twice a week, but, in others months, only twice a month is suggested.
