Coimbatore, June 27: Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced a Rs 100 crore flyover for the city in the Gandhipuram area as a parting gift from the World Tamil Semmozhi Conference which concluded here today after five days of deliberations.
Addressing the valedictory session of the conference, he said a flyover would be constructed in the Gandhipuram area of Coimbatore, and a Semmozhi (classical language) Park would also be established in the city.
A flyover in Gandhipuram was a long-pending demand in view of heavy traffic here, Karunanidhi said. Traffic in this area is on the increase because it is an important commercial area with bus stands. Taking these factors into account, a km-long flyover will be constructed at a cost of Rs 100 crore across the junction of Cross-cut Road and 100 Ft Road connecting Sathyamangalam Road, Karunanidhi said.
