The Madras high court on Friday dismissed an election petition against DMDK president and leader of Opposition in the assembly, Vijayakanth.
M Jayanthi, a disqualified independent candidate from the Rishivanthiyam assembly segment, filed the petition challenging the election of Vijayakanth from the constituency.
In his order, Justice K.Venkataraman said that considering the totality of the circumstances, he was of the considered view that Vijayakanth had not raised any valid ground to dismiss the EP at this stage.
Vijayakanth was elected from the Rishivanthiyam Assembly constituency in Villupuram district in the April 2011 elections.
