Farmers brought under insurance scheme

: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced that farmers would also be brought under the purview of the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme according to reports.

In line with this, Ms Jayalalithaa said all the farmers who were registered under the Farmers' Protection Scheme would also be covered under the Health Insurance scheme. The Chief Minister also announced allocation of Rs nine crore for purchase of medical equipments for the cancer treatment centre at the Government Royapettah Hospital in the city.

The Cancer centre was being constructed at a cost of Rs 17 crore and it was in the final stages of completion, the release said. To equip the cancer centre, she allotted Rs 9.93 crore towards purchase of new medical equipment, accessories and creation of 83 medical and para-medical vacancies.
