Indian Fishermen return safely from Lanka

 

Chennai, July 16th

Following the efforts taken by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, ten fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who were reported missing from July 12, were rescued and returned home safely early this morning. An official release here said the fishermen from Chinna Muttom Fishing Harbour in the southern Kanniyakumari District, ventured into the sea for fishing on July 12. They were supposed to have returned to the shore the same day, but went missing. Following instructions from the Chief Minister, the Fisheries Department authorities contacted the Coast Guard officials and those in the Indian Embassy in Colombo and launched search operations. Meanwhile, the authorities received information that the fishermen were spotted in Sri Lankan waters and were safely rescued by the Lankan fishermen.
