Fishermen attacked by petrol bomb in mid sea

Eight fishermen from Tamil Nadu were injured, two of them seriously, when they were attacked with petrol bombs and sharp weapons by their Sri Lankan counterparts while fishing at mid sea, last night. Reports received at the police headquarters here today said a group of eight fishermen, hailing from Keechankuppam village in Nagapattinam district, were fishing at Thopputhurai, south east of Tamil Nadu, when the incident took place. The fishermen, who had ventured into the sea in a boat on the night of February 18, for fishing in mid sea, when a group of Lankan Fishermen hurled petrol bombs at them. They also attacked them with sickles and other sharp weapons. All the eight fishermen sustained injuries and were admitted to Nagapattinam Goverment Hospital after they returned to the shore.
