A five-member-team from Special Crimes Branch Wing of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have begun a comprehensive investigation into the police firing on Dalits at Paramakudi on September 11 last year, resulting in the death of six people. The CBI sleuths, led by an Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (ADSP) from Chennai split into two groups, were probing the eye witnesses and others at Ramanathapuram and Paramakudi. Highly placed sources said here today the CBI team was camping in Ramanathapuram for the past two days and probing the firing. The local police were tight lipped over the CBI inquiry. Six people were killed and several others injured in police firing, when a group of Dalits went on a procession to pay homage to Dalit leader Immanuel Sekharan at his memorial on his 54th death anniversary, turned violent.
