Mumbai, August 8: The oil spill as a result of the collision between two vessels – Panama ship MSC Chitra had crashed into the St. Kitts-registered MV Khalijia-III yesterday in Mumbai harbour - has set alarm bells ringing.
The authorities today launched efforts on a war-footing to contain the oil spill.
Five Indian Coast Guard ships and two helicopters have been pressed into service for checking the massive oil spill the harbour, around five km south of Mumbai.
Besides additional pollution control resources from Goa, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and ONGC have been requisitioned.
