New Delhi, July 27: It was three adjournments in the Lok Sabha and two in the Rajya Sabha today when the Opposition wanted an adjournment of regular business and a discussion on the price rise issue.
The morning session was disrupted in the Lok Sabha with the combined Opposition on its feet demanding a discussion on the price rise that they said was affecting the people. The NDA partners, Left parties, SP and RJD stood as one in this demand and rushed to the well of the House.
Raising the issue, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj (BJP) said the matter should be discussed before any business could be transacted and she was hardly audible in the din that was created in the House.
Speaker Meira Kumar, unable to calm the members down, adjourned the House till lunch. When the House met at Noon, the ruckus continued, leading to a second adjournment.
The third adjournment came after 2 p.m. when the Speaker announced that the House was adjourned for the day.
In the Rajya Sabha, the picture was no different. The Opposition opposed the holding of a question hour while the price rise issue was a burning issue. They demanded discussion under Rule 168, which entails voting.
In the pandemonium, Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till Noon. But when the House met after Noon, the scene played out again and he adjourned the proceedings for the day.
