New Delhi: August 17th Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde assured the Northeast people that the whole country was with them. He also guaranteed that the government was taking action in this regard. "Till now there is no information on the source of rumours. The government is taking this very seriously. International hand is also being investigated," Shinde said while speaking in the Lok Sabha.
"I appeal to the Northeast children who have gone back home to return that the whole country is yours. We are all with you," Shinde added.
CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta called for action over those spreading rumors leading to the crowd exodus of the northeast people from various cities. "I call upon the entire country to restore sanity. Racial discrimination is not India's culture. The government must take action. Sweet words do not give results to bad people," Dasgupta said.
DMK leader Kanimozhi called for unity to assure security to the people of the Northeast in the country. Speaking on the Northeast exodus in the Rajya Sabha, Kanimozhi said, "We have always been proud of unity in diversity, unity will only come if we look and understand, respect the difference. When we talk of security it's a short term thing, true understanding and respect is the only solution to this problem. We can't go back on technology, science and kill electronic media, social media. We have to make it more responsible."
