Australians defeat Indians at World T20

Barbados, May 7: The batsmen of Australia put the team on a sound footing while their counterparts in India failed miserably. That is how India lost against Australia in the Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup being played in West Indies.

The 49-run defeat against Australia tonight puts the Indians on the backfoot as they have to win the remaining matches against West Indies and Sri Lanka to reach the semifinal.

Putting in to bat, the Australian openers made 104 in 10.5 overs. The Kangaroos wound up with 184/5 in 20 overs.

Only two Indian batsmen could reach the double figure. Rohit Sharma saved India from a big embarrassment, or else the victory margin would have been over 100 runs for Australia.

David Warner top-scored with 72 off 42 balls, while Shane Watson contributed 54 off 32 deliveries. David Hussey made 35. The Australian batsmen hit 16 sixes and only six boundaries.

Ashish Nehra and Yuvraj Singh took 2 wickets each.

Chasing a victory target of 185, Indians seemed wobbly. Rohit Sharma made 79 off 46 balls, lofting 5 sixes and 4 boundaries.

India kept losing wickets at regular intervals and finally bowled out for 135 in 17.4 overs. Harbhajan Singh was the only other batsman who reached a double-digit score - 13.

The Indian batsmen fell victim to Dirk Nannes’ and Shaun Tait’s bowling and they took 3 wickets each. David Warner was declared man of the match.
