Navi Mumbai, April 25: Chennai Super Kings lifted the Twenty20 Indian Premier League - 3 trophy, beating Mumbai Indians by 22 runs here tonight.
Chasing a target of 169, Mumbai could score only 146/9 in the IPL 2010 final.
Electing to bat, Chennai Super Kings made a decent start. But things were truly in their favour when left-handed Suresh Raina made an unbeaten 57 from 35 balls. He lashed three sixes and as many fours. Lucky was riding with Raina as he was dropped twice.
Chennai made 168/5 which had Matthew Hayden contributing 17 and Murali Vijay, 26 runs. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made 22 from 15 balls and S Badrinath, 14.
Sri Lankan pacer Dilhara Fernando emerged the most successful bowler with 2 for 23 while Zaheer Khan and Kieron Pollard picked up one wicket each.
The Mumbai Indians innings had its ups and downs. Despite the five stitches on his finger, captain Sachin Tendulkar piled on 49 runs in 45 balls which was studded with 7 fours.
Abhishek Nayar made a quicksilver 27 out of 26 balls, and Kieron Pollard set the D Y Patil stadium on fire for a brief while in the 10 balls that he faced – he lifted 2 hefty sixes and 3 fours.
