Indian top order batting fired and fired decisively to bring India’s highest ODI total to 418 for 5 against the West Indies at the fourth ODI match played at Holkar cricket stadium, Indore. India has rapped up the series 3-1 with the final match to be played at Chennai on Sunday. Indian skipper Virendra Sehwag hit 219 runs to create a world record for the highest number of runs scored in an ODI match, eclipsing the double ton of fellow Indian, Sachin Tendulkar. Sehwag and Gambir gave India a rousing start by putting on 176 runs before Gambir was run out for 67 runs (67 balls with 11 fours). Sehwag had Suresh Raina as partner for another big partnership that produced 140 runs for the second wicket with Raina scoring 55 (44 balls with 6 fours). Sehwag was let off by his counterpart, Sammy at 170 and Viru said that God wanted him to score his double century. 25 boundaries and 7 sixes embellished his 149 ball knock that brought him the fastest double century in ODIs. India finished at 418 for 5.
Chasing a mammoth 419 for victory, the visitors fell short by a huge 153 runs and were bowled out for 265 in 49.2 overs. Ramdin scored 96 (96 balls with 12 fours). Wickets were falling at regular intervals and the only partnership to note was the second wicket between Simmons and Samuels that produced 50 runs. At one stage, West Indies were 168 for 8 when Rampaul was dismissed. The last two wickets produced 97 runs, especially the last wicket pair put on 64 runs. For India, Rahul Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets each for 43 and 34 runs respectively. Suresh Raina chipped in with two wickets for 17 runs.Sehwag was declared the Man of the Match.
