Wickets tumble at Melbourne

 

 

Melbourne, December 28th

It was a day of the bowlers at Melbourne as fifteen wickets tumbled.  Australia were 179 for 8 on the third day of the first Cricket test match against India in the four match series.  They led India by 230 runs.  Thanks to the 51 runs lead in the first innings.  Umesh Yadav scaled 4 wickets for 49  and Zahir 2 for 32 to send Australia reeling.  Umesh Yadav tormented Australia and left them reeling at 27 for 4 before Ponting did the rescue act again at 16 runs.  The fifth wicket partnership produced 115 runs.  Ponting fell to Zahir who made the important break through for India.  Mike Hussey stood like a rock as again wickets stumbled and remained unbeaten on 79.  Ishant Sharma and Ashwin took a wicket each.Earlier India folded up for 282 conceding a first innings lead of 51.  Dravid did not do the overnight scoring and fell for 68 and the rest of the batsmen added pretty little.  B Hilfenhaus claimed 5 wickets for 75 runs and wrecked Indian innings.  Siddle took 3 for 63 and Pattinson took 2 for 55.
