India scuttled out for 191

3rd January,  Sydney.

India’s hopes to bounce back at the Sydney Cricket Grounds did not come true on the opening day of the second cricket test against Australia in the four match series.  India won the toss and elected to bat on the occasion of the 100th test at SCG.  The Indian innings began ominously with Gautam Gambhir being dismissed without any runs being scored. India never recovered and were bowled out for 191 in 59.3 overs.  (Pattinson 4 for 43, Siddle 3 for 55 and Hilfenhaus 3 for 51) were the rescuers  of the Indian innings.  Skipper MS Dhoni fought a lonely valiant battle remaining unbeaten on 57.  He shot a seventh wicket stand of 54 runs with Ashwin who made 20 runs.  Apart from Sehwag (30) and Sachin Tendulkar (41) none of the Indian batsmen could measure up to the Australian bowling.

Zahir Khan struck three vital blows in the Australian essay, returning the host for 37 for 3.  Ricky Ponting and Michel Clarke once again at the rescue act to take Australia to 116 for 3 at stumps on the opening day.  Ponting on 44 and Clarke on 47 were at the crease.  Zahir returned figures 3 for 26.
