Australia on top

Perth, 13th January.

Australia had knocked off 149 for no loss, thanks to a breath-neck unbeaten century by David Warner (104 not out) at close of the opening day of the third cricket test. This indeed is the fourth fastest in test cricket. The Australian bowlers had skittled out India for 161.  Batting first, India was in trouble from the beginning losing Sehwag for a duck.  Though Gambhir stayed, wickets fell at the other end, with all the stalwarts such as Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.  After Gambhir’s exit for 31, Virat Kohli and VVS Laxman had it (68 runs) for the fifth wicket, which was the only silver lining in the Indian innings.  Kohli made 44 and Laxman 31.  Procession of batsmen followed and India were bundled out for 161.  Hilfenhaus (4 for 43) and Siddle (3 for 42) once again were the tormentors for the Indian batsmen.  Starc and Harris took two wickets and a wicket respectively. The Australian openers Cowan and David Warner thrashed the Indian bowling and quickly brought up the hundred of the innings.  David Warner scored an unbeaten 104.  This was Warner’s second test 100.  While Cowan remained at 40 at the end of the day as Australia were just 12 runs short of the first innings totally with all the wickets in hand.
